| | | Description: | | It is 1949, and the Great War has been raging for 35 long years. A secret archaeological dig has just uncovered a powerful relic and delivered it to the Obscura Korps, agents of the Reich's military aristocracy. This artifact holds the key to information that the Reich has sought for years: the location of one of the four dark cardinal corners of reality.
This Cardinal Cornerstone is buried in an ancient crypt beneath a fortess in the heart of Central Europe. If the Reich controls it, they could open a portal to Hell. The Reich's 13th Occult Division is at the fortress now, led by Marquis General Hermann Von Heïzinger. These agents of the Obscura Korps plan to call upon the Cohorts of Chaos to help them force the world into eternal servitude.
A few courageous men and women are all that stands between the Reich and the Cardinal Cornerstone. The 42nd Marine Special Forces is the Union's most elite combat unit, and for this mission its highly trained members have been equipped with powerful, still-experimental weaponry. They will parachute behind enemy lines, hunt down Heïzinger, and attempt to neutralize the most horrific threat mankind has ever faced.

Very fun and well thought out!Jul 03, 2009

"If you ain't Cav, you ain't $#it!!!"
First off, I have ALL the Arkham series games from creator Fantasy Flight Games, and with my interest in military history, I figured on giving this game a try...and I'm VERY happy that I did! The game advertises a "Pathfinding System". What this does is color code every available space on the map. If your target is on a space of the same color, you can see them. So, if you're in a room of yellow spaces, you can see all the yellow spaces in the room, but not the red ones in the next room...however, if you stand right int he doorway, your space is red AND yellow, because you can see into BOTH rooms. Once you actually get into playing this, you can't help but appreciate the innovation in making this simple yet VERY effective rule. This gets rid of arguements on "who can see who" and having obscure rules on what rooms/hallways you can see into/down.
Another cool rule is that when fielding your characters, you can pick a pre-made loadout of equipment, which gives you an extra, unique item for that character, OR you can scrap the pre-made loadouts and create your own. So if you're sick of games where one person always has a great gun but garbage secondary gear, you can now custom design your character to your specific play style.
Both above ideas seem simple, but REALLY set this game apart from other adventure/dungeon games on the market. Also, new characters, equipment and rules are being released, some of which are free on their website.
So overall, if you enjoy "run and shoot" videogames and RPG/adventure/dungeon boardgames or videogames, then I have to honestly say this is a MUST HAVE game.

Tannhauser: Even better w/revised rulebookMay 28, 2010
By Phillip E. Wiltzius *Important Update to Tannhauser (This is not a full review but helpful to others)
I have this game, and it is amazing. There were many small gripes people had with this game when it first came out, and much of it had to do with unclear or unbalanced rules. However, Fantasy Flight Games recently came out (May 2010) with a revised rule book that makes a good game even better. For example, weapons, equipment, and game modes have all been altered so things make more sense when you play Tannhauser. Three things worth noting amongst the many changes: smoke grenades have been specifically altered so they're not as much of a cheap move as they used to be, victory points have been changed to command points, and dice pools have been better defined for weapons.
As of right now, Fantasy Flight Games has been selling their revised manual for five bucks off of their website, and since the game has been updated I hope in the future that the Tannhauser board game comes packaged with the revised rulebook. The amazon version currently does not have a revised rulebook (but maybe soon!). Good news though, all the pieces and bits that come with the original Tannhauser game are still applicable to the revised rulebook, so don't fret about having to buy an 'updated' version of the game.
Hope this helps some of you who were on the fence before.

Tannhauser - A fun third person tactical shooterMar 31, 2010
By T. Wilson Tannhauser is a fun and addictive third person tactical shooter board game for two or more people.
The board is huge (a bit smaller than Arkham Horror), solid and comes with two maps for play, the rules are easy to learn for adults, and the pieces are well sculpted. Everything in this game screams Weird War II, except the fact that WWI hasn't ended yet according to the storyline.
Don't let the box fool you about the number of players. The box comes with two sets of five characters (3 heroes and 2 grunts). Technically, ten people could crowd around the board and play each character on the teams, but it's ideally for two people. Future expansions may change this, but this review is for the base Tannhauser game.
Thankfully, the base game is heavily supported by its publisher. New expansions including maps, items, solo characters, and new teams are already out and more are in production right now. Since its still growing, I recommend jumping in now and seeing what the fun is all about.
Highly recommended.

Intersting gameJan 07, 2009
By George Ricky Rieckenberg The best way to describe this game: FPS, you run and you shoot, it isn't much more complex than that, you have weapons that do different damage that are better certain ranges and their are weapon pickups in some of the game modes. The German side has magic the allied side has better tech. Things tend to be pretty fairly balanced.

"The Wench"
Fantasy flight really made some improvments from their other games. Line of site is clear cut, areas are well marked, characters between both sides are well balanced. A fun game for people of all levels of experience!
