Set Phaser to Cool.Jun 03, 2010
I just got this Phaser from the 09 Star Trek Movie and although I love the Wrath of Khan Phaser, this is still a cool addition to my Star Trek Collection.
Pro:
It's has a nice Chrome look to it and it fits your hand like a glove.
The Barrel does rotate.
Sounds are pretty cool and right out the movie.
Con:
The Barrel only rotates from Stun to Kill but you have to set back to Stun manually (it would have been nice if this had a small motor to rotate the barrel.)
Only Two Settings ( Stun and Kill---no power level adjusting like the Classic and WoK Phaser).
Above all it still a nice piece to my collection and I do love it but a few more features would have been nice (such as power level adjusting and an overload mode, a more motorize rotating barrel in stead of using the spring) .

This product is fantastic for any Science Fiction fan, Star Trek or otherwise. The sound effects are cool and not annoying -a rarity among toys of this type. There are more features than I had thought when I originally bought it, making it a really pleasant surprise! The stun and vaporize settings have different sound effects. There's even a button for a quick switch from stun to vaporize. There's a power-up wheel on the top of the phaser with its own sound effect as well. The only drawback with this many features is possible lack of sturdiness, but this phaser has surprised me in this area too. It had survived several "battles" being shared back and forth between twelve kids ages six through twelve. It still works perfectly.
This is a great gift idea for practically any age group, from what I've seen its been a hit with grown ups and children alike. If you're a Star Trek fan fan this is a must buy!

Purchased this for my wife who is a star trek nerd.
Cheap cheap cheap.. THe Phaser did not make any sound so I attempted to call the company to get a new one. HAHA what a joke. Operators always said I needed to talk to someone else who was never there. SCAM i'm a thinkin.

It was just what my son (12) wanted since he likes Star Trek. It has a cool "flip" feature which makes it a clever toy. plastic, but it looks nice and is durable enough for "shooting" around corners and it lights up. He and his friends/younger siblings enjoy it whether or not they're into Star Trek. We ordered 2 and they arrived on time in pristine packages.

I've just received this Playmates Phaser "prop" that was seen in the new Abrams Star Trek movie. No pun intended, all I can say is I'm stunned by it! I didn't like it at first, but when I saw it in action in the movie, I wanted to get it straight away! Its mostly chromed and the features of the phaser is really fun! There is an on/off switch at the bottom. And on top, there is some sort of volume like dial that lets you power the phaser up. And the best feature of all is the flipping barrels from stun to vaporize mode just like it does in the movie!!! I'm having fun with this phaser and its not only for kids, I would recommend this to all Star Trek fans of all ages. The only downside of the phaser is the visible screws on the other side. If only Playmates would have covered it up.
Nonetheless, this phaser prop is something that adults like me can display proudly at home and say that this was the phaser Kirk and Spock used when they beamed aboard the Narada in the recent Star Trek movie!!! Excellent stuff!!!
