3Wrong Box.Dec 30, 2010
By Annoyed Costumer
Just like the two other reviewers, I also received a fat pack. I was planning on hosting a draft, opened the package, and had to cancel. Now I probably wont be able to draft with some of my friends, and am very disappointed. Please amazon, can you punish this clearly incompetent company? This is not just a wrong item, but a significantly cheaper item, with similar packaging to someone who is unfamiliar with magic.

5A return to an interesting set...only less brokenOct 07, 2010
By Brian
Perhaps it's because I started playing magic a few weeks before the first Mirrodin block came out and therefore am a sentimental fool, but I really like this set. It has all of the flavor of the old, but without the absurdity that was artifact lands and colorless creatures with affinity for artifacts. If you still desire the good ol' days, where you could play half your hand on turn 1 and build off of your mass of artifacts, you can still do that via the Metalcraft mechanic...you just have to put more thought into your later spells and how they will interact with the ones you spammed earlier (instead of simply cramming your deck with colorless affinity creatures). Or, if you are more of a control player, there are amazing options there, too, such as Proliferate (this means you can systematically go through each permanent and player and add a counter of a kind already there, or not if you choose). Infect is the scariest thing to come out of a set in a long time, dealing irreparable damage (poison counters) and permanent -1/-1 counters if your creatures don't get through. This obviously works devastatingly in concert with proliferate, as poison counters and -1/-1 counters can be added to this way. And let me remind you that 10 poison counters on a player wins you the game, not 20.

All in all, a very interesting new set. The only criticism I can give it is that it feels like it's missing some obvious cards, but I expect that to be rectified in the coming expansions. If nothing else, attend a sealed tournament and see how much fun these new mechanics can be. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

1Worst experienceJan 24, 2011

I ordered a Booster Pack and received a Fat Pack. I am still waiting for my return slip. Worst experience with Amazon in a very long time! Will never order from this company again!

5Buy this instead of starter decksNov 22, 2011
By Brent
Whether you are just getting in to Magic, or you have been playing for years, this is really the best bang for your buck (especially considering Amazon is the cheapest place to get it). I highly recommend it, and make sure to have fun opening and sorting the cards. It will probably take about an hour, so make sure you don't have any plans that afternoon.

5Be Carefull of getting the Wrong ITEM!Dec 15, 2010
By Mom of MTG Player
We were sent the incorrect item - and if I didn't know any better -they just might have gotten away with it. We ordered a MTG Booster Box for $100, What was sent to us was a FAT PACK - which usually retails for $30 - The store sticker says its a Booster Box,the box says Fat Pack - Hopefully this was just an "oops!" not someone trying to get away with something - needless to say my son will be might dissapointed at Christmas if we can't get a Booster Box Shipped pronto!!! Bummer. We are sending this back - Good thing I knew what the product was supposed to look like.!!!
