5The Plushest Spirochete You've Ever SeenMar 09, 2010
By Robert I. Hedges
For those of us who have actually fallen victim to the Borrelia burgdorferi spirochete via the wily deer tick (Ixodes scapularis), this plush toy represents making the best of adversity. Lyme disease is no joking matter, and is spreading in this country. My home is in a very wooded area frequented by deer and the deer tick. Because of my encounter with Lyme disease, I am now more cautious about possible tick bites.

This toy is well made and looks a lot less menacing than some of the other Giant Microbes collection, though believe me, it's plenty menacing! Guests to the house comment on it with some frequency, as it's in the guest bedroom. They have universally found it simultaneously amusing and odd. I plan on adding to the collection of Giant Microbes at some future date, but plan on staying clear of the associated illnesses if at all possible.

To sum up: this is a fun and simultaneously silly and serious toy, and is well worth the price if you're the kind of person who enjoys plush microbes.

5Another great giant microbes productJul 26, 2007
By AJ "AJ"
Giant microbes are a hit in our scientific house. This one is just a bit less similar to the actual microbe (not as long and thin, more fat and snake-like) than some others, but has the added bonus of being able to be worn as a bracelet in addition to being a soft and cuddly companion. This is also a sturdy product (but I wouldn't recommend twisting too hard out of shape). Information tag, as with all of the giant microbe products, is very child engaging and informative.

5What a great ideaJan 02, 2008
By M. Tomlinson
What a great idea!!! A family member had Lymes disease last year and it took her months to finally be symptom free. When I saw this, I knew she would enjoy seeing her "old friend" again...it was a great joke on her and she loved it.

5Seriously Silly :)Nov 02, 2010
By Jo B.
First off, let me just say that as a Lyme-infested person, I usually get semi-offended by people making such a small deal over Lyme Disease. This toy is one of the only exceptions.

I've suffered from Lyme Disease since I had just turned seven (such a thoughtful present! :D), and two years ago, on a particularly bad day when these little guys were getting riled up because of the summer heat, a dear friend of mine walked through my door (without knowing it was one of THOSE days), and tossed me this as a 'Christmas in July' sort of thing.

Lyme disease made my day, for once. :)

My story aside, here's the review of the product spects:
It's pretty true to the pictured color, and extremely well made, and very durable. It's actually become a favourite toy to both of my mouthy dogs -- a toy they've been chewing and playing with for over two years, and it still hasn't split a seam! Easy to wash, too. It's also fun to see the look on guest's faces when one of them brings it over as a 'present'. ;)

5Pick your own diseaseDec 15, 2009

I got each family member a microbe for their own most-memorable ailment. For me, lyme disease, since I had it twice. It's a fun way to mock that which only makes us stronger!
